Northern Soul Grilled Cheese
Dan and his team at Northern Soul make mouth-watering grilled-cheese sandwiches, so good that people queue outside the shack to get their hands on one. Even Justin Bieber’s had his mouth around one.
Adam came to try the Meat Lust Katsu, the signature grilled cheese sandwich on sesame-seeded sourdough with Northern fried chicken, Meat Lust Katsu Curry sauce and Asian slaw. You know you want some…
Richard, James & Heather created Beastro after seeing success in the street food scene, sourcing the best local ingredients & providing simple, great food at a fair price. The Beastro gang were our on-board food team, serving a five-dish menu on the top deck, all featuring Meat Lust Sauces. We had It's Nacho Beef, Katsu 'n' Dogz, the Chinese Lamb Juan, Bunny in the Buff & Ghost Pappa'd Pig and there was always a few going spare. The Beastro guys are a generous bunch and we had an absolute ball with them!
Paul & George set up ShinDigger at uni, buying a home-brewing kit & selling beer at parties. They now sell American-style craft beers all over Manchester & as far as Hong Kong, shifting 50,000 pints a month. They were even booked for the Coronation Street staff party at the Rovers Return! The Session IPA was one of on-board beers which paired perfectly with Beastro's dishes. Thankfully, the Meat Lust team had some left over to finish after Adam & the boys checked out the Ancoats brewery!
Lyndon’s alter-ego Crazy Pedro has been taking Manchester by storm, serving up great pizza with imaginative toppings such as chips & gravy, chicken & waffle and even Easter eggs, all alongside Manchester’s largest mescal & tequila selection. Adam rocked up to the packed Northern Quarter parlour to try the Lucky Lucky Kat with a Meat Lust Katsu curry Sauce base, mozzarella, chillies, panko breaded chicken, marinated soy leeks, cashew nuts & extra sauce to finish. Now where’s that tequila?
Hip Hop Chip Shop
Ozzie and the team love hip hop & chips so the origin of the award-drenched Hip Hop Chip Shop is pretty obvious. They're all about the untraditional with the traditional, serving classic chippy food with a genuine innovative twist. The boom box trailer is a must-visit at Media City.
Adam bowled in to meet Ozzie & Holly, but also to try the Meat Junkie; sausage wrapped in bacon, deep fried. That’s right, a deep-fried pigs in blankets, topped with Meat Lust Ghost Chilli Sauce for a real kick.
Sugar Rays is a stunning New York-style basement cocktail bar, passionate about waffles and dreaming up new and exciting combinations from the team’s many visits over to the USA. Adam tried the Sausage in Cider. Yep, exactly how you think it sounds. A superb double entendre to go with a stunning beef dog, topped with salted crispy pork, pickled red cabbage, cider roasted onions and Meat Lust Ghost Chilli Sauce with mayo. A real mouthful, dare we say it…
This place needs no introduction. Neither does our chosen on-board beer, Punk IPA. Up there with the biggest & most successful craft breweries in the world, Brewdog was set up by Martin & James in Scotland and has grown into a global beast. Adam dropped into the Brewdog bar on Peter Street in Manchester to have a beer tasting session with the boys. It had been a long day and it wasn’t the first beer they’d tried, clearly. The Punk IPA was a huge hit on the Sauce and the City tour, obviously.
Duncan & Keri set up Tickety Brew with no external funding, using Belgian yeast to make their beers taste very special. As a small brewery, Tickety Brew create monthly specials often with a nod to Manchester, past creations feature cornflakes & Vimto… The Jasmine Green Tea Pale Ale was a light refreshing staple on the Sauce and the City tour, bringing tipsy guests back asking for more. Adam & Martin tried their creations outside the City Arms on a warm July evening. The night didn’t end there…
Dirty Food Revolution
Get dirty and join the revolution. That’s what owner Craig told Adam when he rocked up at on the opening night of the tour to try a burger dedicated to the man himself. Two aged chuck steak patties, cured, smoked streaky bacon, red jalapenos, mayo, American cheese & Meat Lust BBQ Mop sauce on a brioche bun. A burger so good, Adam had to share it with Meat Lust's Martin, Lady & the Tramp-style. For the tour, Dirty Food served panko fried halloumi bites with Meat Lust Buffalo Sauce for dipping. Incredible.
